Moto Z Play Patch Adds New Animation, Fixes Notification Bug

Owners of the Moto Z Play smartphone may be pleased to learn that a new update shipping with a revised update animation and a fix for one noticeable bug is now rolling out in India. The software update is approximately 195MB in size and arrives as version NPN25.137-24-1. Unfortunately, it’s not the Android 7.1.2 Nougat update that some users might have been hoping for. However, the software package also includes the usual improvements to system stability and fixes a bug that was causing notification sounds on the device to be too low.

Some Moto Z Play users may have already received the notification prompting them to download the new update, but if that’s not the case, you could try to search for the update manually. To do so, simply head to the Settings menu on your handset, select the “About Phone” option and then open the “System Updates” section. If the update is available, you’ll be able to download it from this menu. As always, device owners are advised to download the update over a high-speed network or Wi-Fi, and it’s also a good idea to either charge your phone completely prior to installing the update or leave it to charge after you initialize the installation process.

The Moto Z Play was unveiled by Lenovo in August last year and has since launched in various markets worldwide. It was released in India last October alongside the pricier Moto Z. The smartphone is compatible with Moto Mod accessories and is also available for purchase as the Moto Z Play Droid from the Verizon. Specifications of the device include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded by up to 256GB via a microSD slot. The phone boasts a 5.5-inch display with Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080), a 3510mAh battery, 16-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter. Other notable features of the device include dust and splash resistance, wireless charging, and a fingerprint sensor that’s located on the front of the handset. The Moto Z Play was launched running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow and was later upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat.
