The official Android app of the Amazon FreeTime service started rolling out on the Google Play Store on Tuesday, shipping with support for non-Kindle devices. The Seattle, Washington-based tech giant originally introduced this offering as Kindle FreeTime Unlimited in late 2012, offering its customers an opportunity to access a large content library encompassing thousands of children-oriented movies, series, apps, games, eBooks, and other digital offerings. The service sets you back $9.99 per month if you’re looking to purchase it for a family with four children, or $6.99 if you’re an Amazon Prime subscribers. Alternatively, you can opt to pay for Amazon FreeTime Unlimited per child, with each individual subscription being priced at $4.99 per month, i.e. $2.99 for Prime customers.
Amazon’s entertainment service currently boasts more than 10,000 titles, including programming from Disney and Nickelodeon, as well as content financed by the Amazon Originals program. As the service and its dedicated app have been designed for kids, the latter ships with robust parental controls that will provide you with a plethora of options for regulating the time your children spend with the app. Likewise, the Amazon FreeTime Android app also features an integrated, age-appropriate browser that only opens websites that Amazon approved by default. Alternatively, all parents can opt to modify the browser’s whitelist in any way they see fit or even disable the feature altogether, the company revealed. Finally, one of the main selling points of the service are its FreeTime Smart Filters that customize the user experience of your children depending on how old they are while simultaneously taking their personal preferences into consideration, thus creating a highly individualized viewing experience.
The Seattle-based tech giant is still offering month-long free trials of the service, so all curious customers will be able to try out Amazon FreeTime at no cost.
