The Xiaomi Mi 6 was announced almost two weeks ago at this point, and it seems like its sibling, the Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus, got postponed because of the Galaxy S8. According to a Chinese analyst, Pan Jiutang, Xiaomi had to postpone the announcement of the Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus because Samsung has been receiving tons of pre-orders for the Galaxy S8, the demand has been higher than expected, and the South Korean giant needs more Snapdragon 835 chips than they initially expected.
The Snapdragon 835 seems to be in high demand, and there are not enough chips to go around it seems. LG was originally planning to include the Snapdragon 835 in the LG G6, but that didn’t happen due to supply issues, the company opted to release the phone with the Snapdragon 821 instead. Something similar happened with the HTC U Ultra, which is also fueled by the Snapdragon 821 64-bit quad-core processor. The Xiaomi Mi 6, as many of you know at this point, is fueled by the Snapdragon 835, and the Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus is expected to be a larger variant of the Xiaomi Mi 6, and it will also be fueled by the Snapdragon 835, though Xiaomi might have to wait a bit in order to release that smartphone. Recent rumors even suggested that the company gave up on releasing the Xiaomi MI 6 Plus altogether, as the Xiaomi Mi Note 3 will land later this year, and both of those devices are expected to be phablets. Now, according to Pan Jiutang, the Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus is coming, but we still don’t know when.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus will be made out of metal and glass if the company opts to announce it, though Xiaomi will probably release a ceramic variant of that smartphone as well, as they did that with the Xiaomi Mi 6. The Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus will probably sport a 5.7-inch fullHD or QHD display, along with 6GB of RAM and 64GB / 128GB of native storage. The device will sport two 12-megapixel snappers on the back, and Android Nougat will come pre-installed on that smartphone, along with the company’s MIUI 8 OS. All that remains now, is to see whether Xiaomi actually plans to introduce this handset or not.
