Galaxy S6 Edge Plus Getting May 2017 Patch From T-Mobile

T-Mobile is currently launching a new software update for the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. The software package includes Google’s latest Android security patch for May and promises improvements to device stability as well as performance. In addition to that, T-Mobile’s official changelog mentions that the update should fix an issue causing intermittent call failure, and as such, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus owners who may have experienced these problems on T-Mobile’s network are highly advised to download and apply the new update on their handsets as soon as possible.

The latest software package for T-Mobile’s Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is identified by the baseband version “G928TUVU4EQE1” and the package weighs around 223MB. The update follows shortly after Galaxy S6 Edge Plus owners received Android 7.0 Nougat in early May. However, users whose smartphones are currently running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow (baseband version ending with “DQC2”) will also make the jump to Android 7.0 Nougat along with the latest update, and will skip the May patch carrying the baseband version “G928TUVU4EQC6.” Having said that, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus owners who have not yet updated their smartphones to Android 7.0 Nougat can also look forward to a handful of new features specific to Google’s latest OS version, including split-screen multitasking, an improved Doze Mode that should ensure longer battery life, enhanced notifications, and various changes to the user interface that are more or less evident within Samsung’s proprietary Android user interface.

T-Mobile is currently releasing the new software package for the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus as an over-the-air (OTA) update but as per the usual case, users can also try and trigger the update process manually from the phone’s Settings menu under the “About device” section. It’s advised to download the update over a Wi-Fi network sufficiently charge the device before initializing the installation procedure. The Galaxy S6 Edge Plus was released on T-Mobile’s network in the second half of 2015 running Android 5.1 Lollipop, and the smartphone has already enjoyed two major Android OS updates as well as numerous security patches throughout its lifespan. More details regarding future software updates for the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus will likely be available later this year.
