The feature has rolled out to Portugal, New Zealand, Finland, Belgium, South Africa, and the Netherlands, in addition to the aforementioned two countries. It’s currently unclear when exactly did the Alphabet-owned company expanded its support for promo codes, though the change likely happened at some point this week or it probably would have been caught sooner. The promo codes supported by the Google Play Store allow developers to issue free apps or in-app purchases (IAPs) to individuals and organizations without making any changes to their official listings. The codes can also be used to add funds to a Google Account, at least for the time being, though recent developments indicate that the Mountain View-based tech giant may completely eliminate the option of sending digital funds to other Google Play Store users.
Furthermore, one Android user from Bulgaria claims that promo codes for the Google Play Store are also available in Bulgaria, though the Eastern European country currently isn’t listed by Google as being supported. If accurate, the report suggests that the Alphabet-owned company either isn’t updating its Google Play Store help pages in a timely manner or is currently testing the feature in certain countries prior to officially rolling it out. Given its usual development practices, the latter scenario seems more likely, though it remains to be seen whether the company clarifies the situation in any official capacity.
As Android is one of Google’s flagship products and the Google Play Store serves as the entry point to nearly three million of Android apps, the Mountain View-based Internet giant is adamant to keep its digital marketplace updated on a regular basis.
