Now that the HTC U11 is finally official, and just about every aspect of this smartphone has been announced, it’s time to take a closer look at its camera. After all, the camera is one of the most important aspects of virtually any smartphone, which is why many smartphone makers have been working hard on improving their mobile sensors and making them replace our point-and-shoot compact cameras. The HTC U11 has a single 12-megapixel camera, while most companies are going for the dual-camera setup these days. But the HTC U11 does have a few tricks up its sleeve.
The HTC U11 has some advanced HDR settings on its camera, which are aimed at bringing better picture quality to the single camera lens here. It features HDR Boost, which isn’t really a new feature from a mechanical standpoint, but it does allow for better, more colorful pictures. The device also boasts support for 3D Audio and Hi-Res Audio and these features are aimed at the video side of things, designed with the goal of making video recording more immersive and lifelike. With 3D Audio, the phone will use both its front and rear microphones (four in total) to record sounds. HTC says that you’ll really get the full effect of the recorded experience when using headphones.
HTC hasn’t had the best track record with cameras, at least in the last few years, so the HTC U11 might be the start of something new for the Taiwanese company. On paper, the HTC U11 appears to feature a pretty impressive smartphone camera, but of course, we’ll have to wait until it’s taken out into the real world and used to see just how great it can perform. But with the image signal processor (ISP) included in the Snapdragon 835, which is powering the HTC U11, it shouldn’t be a surprise to see this smartphone perform quite beautifully with taking pictures both during the day and at night. The HTC U11 also sports a 16-megapixel front-facing camera which is said to be pretty impressive for taking selfies and such, while the device itself is scheduled to launch in the United States and other markets next month.
