HTC has shared a video on YouTube to celebrate its 20th anniversary since it entered the business. It was founded on May 15th, 1997 and the celebratory video shows its journey from early days to where it has reached now along with its vision for the future. To be specific, the theme of the video is to highlight “20 years of innovation” and how it is being “quietly brilliant.” It talks about various world’s firsts which HTC has under its belt including the world’s first touch-centric smartphone which was for Microsoft, and the world’s first Android smartphone, the T-Mobile G1 also known as the HTC Dream.
It was the smartphone which was the first step for Android in the direction of smartphone operating system dominance which has helped it reach 2 billion monthly actives devices as of now. HTC did not stop there as the company went on to release the world’s first 4G Android smartphone, the HTC Evo 4G, and even helped Google release the first Nexus series smartphone named the Nexus One. Of course it would be hard to forget the HTC One (M7) which was the first all-metal smartphone with the antenna on the inside. But it is not only about phones, the company also ventured into other areas as well including virtual reality (VR) with the release of the HTC Vive VR headset. It is one of the most expensive VR headsets out there but has managed to receive positive feedback regarding what it has to offer.
There is no doubt that HTC has been one of the pioneers of industry and was also one of the impact players in smartphones until a few years ago but things have changed a lot for the Taiwanese OEM in recent times. It has been struggling with poor smartphones sales and declining revenues as many of its competitors continue to perform better in similar aspects. HTC is expecting to overcome these unfavorable situations with the all-new U series featuring HTC U Ultra, HTC U Play, and most recently announced HTC U11 but only time can tell if these phones will bring any of the desired changes. In the meantime, you can check out the video shared by HTC as it completed 20 years this past Monday.
