If you are looking to pick up the latest smartphone from HTC, the HTC U11, and are based in the US, then it looks like some of the availability details have now been confirmed by HTC. The good news is that US buyers will be able to pick up the HTC U11 later this month, the bad news is that availability is not quite as wide-reaching as other major smartphone releases. Like the previous HTC U Ultra, the new HTC U11 be available to buy as an unlocked smartphone from HTC directly, though you’ll also be able to get it through Sprint. The price for the unlocked model will be $649. The HTC U11 is going to be available in a number of color options, although details on whether all color options will be available to US consumers has yet to be provided.
If you missed the earlier announcement, the HTC U11 (formerly known as the ‘HTC U’ and the ‘HTC Ocean’) comes with a specific and clear selling point – its ‘Edge Sense’. These are sensors which effectively allow the user to apply pressure by squeezing the phone to initiate certain commands. Especially when the smartphone is in the off position, as the HTC U11 allows for quick access and launching of select features, like for instance – the camera. In addition, squeezes can also be determined by the duration of the squeeze, with features able to be attributed to both long and short squeezes.
Edge Sense aside, the rest of the specs are pretty on point with the rest of the 2017 flagship range. As the HTC U11 is now confirmed as coming loaded with a 5.5-inch display which makes use of a 2560 x 1440 resolution. Inside, the HTC U11 comes packed with 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. In terms of cameras, this smartphone comes loaded with a 12-megapixel rear camera, along with a 16-megapixel front-facing camera. Additional features on offer, include a 3,000mAh battery, Quick Charge 3.0 support, USB Type-C connectivity (including audio out – no headphone jack), and Android 7.1. (Nougat) pre-installed. Which of course, is overlaid with HTC’S own Sense UI.
