Huawei is reportedly gearing up for the unveiling of the Nova 2 which will apparently take place later this month, on May 26. The news broke through an official promotional poster passed along from sources in China, and confirms the date while mentioning the Huawei Nova 2 “series.” This bit of detail suggests that the Chinese tech giant has more than one smartphone in store for the unveiling event, and lends more weight to the idea that the Huawei Nova 2 will be accompanied by a larger Nova 2 Plus model.
Both the Huawei Nova 2 and the Nova 2 Plus have been previously spotted passing through TENAA, China’s equivalent of the FCC. The duo’s exterior design has been largely uncovered by the aforementioned regulatory agency earlier this month, though hardware details on the devices have been somewhat scarce. Nevertheless, the Huawei Nova 2 is expected to carry a 5.1-inch display panel, whereas the Nova 2 Plus might sport a larger 5.5-inch screen. Both smartphones seem to be wrapped in a metal body, and both are expected to make use of roughly the same internal hardware components, including the same system-on-chip made by Qualcomm. According to a Chinese publication that has uncovered the aforementioned promotional poster, the smartphones could both make use of the new Snapdragon 660 System-on-Chip officially unveiled by Qualcomm earlier this week. The chipset is already available on the market and the first devices carrying it are expected to ship before the end of the second quarter of 2017.
Both the Huawei Nova 2 and the Nova 2 Plus may be powered by batteries larger than 3,000mAh supporting 18W fast charge, and are expected to carry dual camera configurations complete with an LED flash, recent reports have indicated. Lastly, the upcoming duo will reportedly run Android Nougat out of the box, but as per the usual case, the operating system will likely be largely covered by Huawei’s proprietary Emotion user interface (EMUI). Keep in mind that Huawei has yet to officially confirm the smartphones’ specifications, and thus the hardware details above remain subject to change until the company states otherwise. Regardless, all details about the upcoming pair of Nova-branded smartphones should be officially announced in a matter of weeks.
