Leak: OnePlus 5 Render Appears Once Again

Since OnePlus announced that they would be launching the OnePlus 5 pretty soon, and it’d be available this summer. There’s been plenty of leaks of the unannounced device. Including plenty of sketches of the device, which were likely from engineers (if they are even real), before the device started prototyping. The OnePlus 5 has appeared once again, this time over on Weibo, China’s version of Twitter – a place where many smartphones leaks, since they are typically made in China. The device, which is pictured above, shows a dual camera setup, which is vertical, like the Huawei Mate 9’s dual-camera setup. Something that isn’t seen a lot these days, since most companies go with a horizontal one.

Since we only see the back on this render here, it’s tough to see what all OnePlus may be packing in this smartphone. But it does appear that the fingerprint sensor will still be on the front, likely as part of the fingerprint sensor. We do see dual LED flash between the cameras, as well as antenna lines at the top and bottom. Which likely means this is a metal smartphone (it does look metal in the picture, but it could also be plastic made to look like metal).

The OnePlus 5 is one of the more hyped devices of the year, especially now that LG and Samsung’s smartphone launches are out of the way. The OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T were both pretty popular devices, and it wouldn’t be surprising for the OnePlus 5 to also be a pretty popular device this summer. It’s a bit strange that they skipped four – although the number 4 is said to be unlucky in Chinese culture. Either way, excited potential buyers of the OnePlus 5 won’t need to wait too long for the OnePlus 5 to be announced and become available. It’s looking like a June launch this year, which isn’t that far away, but it does put them after HTC’s launch of the U 11, which is good for OnePlus. It’ll likely be available right after the announcement, or shortly after (as in about a week), as they did with the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T last year.
