An LG Electronics-made device bearing the model number LG-M320Y — possibly the upcoming LG X power2 — was certified by the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), as evidenced by a number of documents published by the agency on Wednesday. The South Korean consumer electronics manufacturer originally applied for certification in early April, consequently requesting a standard six-month confidentiality period from the FCC. The limited documentation published by the federal agency reveals that the smartphone is running some build of Android Nougat enhanced with LG’s proprietary user interface, as evidenced by the screenshot below.
While the Seoul-based phone maker has yet to officially confirm that the newly certified cellphone is the LG X power2, one variant of this device already appeared on Geekbench earlier this week, sporting the model number LG-M320. Apart from corroborating that the device runs Nougat — specifically, Android 7.0 — the Geekbench listing of the handset also indicates that the phone will ship with the MediaTek MT6750 system-on-chip (SoC), a 64-bit piece of Silicon featuring eight ARM-A53 cores, half of which are clocked at 1GHz, while the other half is capable of running at a frequency of up to 1.5GHz. The MediaTek-made SoC is also equipped with the ARM Mali-T860 MP2 GPU that supports resolutions of up to 1280 by 720 pixels, implying that LG’s upcoming smartphone will feature a conventional HD display panel. Finally, Geekbench suggests that the LG-M320 will be powered by 2GB of RAM, and MediaTek’s product documentation on the MT6750 indicates how that memory will be of the LPDDR3 variant.
All of the currently available information on the device suggests that LG’s upcoming handset will compete in the lower mid-range or possibly even entry-level segment of the market, depending on how aggressively the South Korean phone maker decides to price it. No specifics regarding the availability of the LG-M320(Y) have been revealed so far, but if this smartphone truly is the LG X power2, it should be hitting the market come next month. The same goes for all other variants of the handset, including the LG-M320H. While LG recently launched its latest Android flagship — the LG G6 — in the country, more affordable devices like the LG-M320 are still an important part of the company’s stateside strategy that recently led it to a historic 20-percent share of the U.S. phone market.
