Meet Jelly, A Phone With A 2.4-Inch Display & Android Nougat

Meet Jelly. This is a smartphone that looks to buck the current trend of ever-growing in size smartphones. As Jelly is not only smaller than most of the current crop of smartphones, but is one of the smallest, if not the actual smallest, smartphone to come running on Android. This is because Jelly comes with a 2.4-inch display, complete with a 240 x 432 resolution. A smartphone that is so small that the team claims it can fit inside the ‘coin pocket’ of a pair of jeans. At the moment, Jelly is the sum of a new Kickstarter project, although it has already eclipsed its goal price of $30,000 and one of the likely reasons for its early popularity is that this smartphone can be backed for as little as $69.

Of course, with a smartphone of this size, you probably shouldn’t be expecting the latest and greatest in terms of specs and features – which seems to be the case. Although, it does seem there will be two variants on offer for those who want a little more from this small smartphone. As while the baseline model will come with 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage, there will also be a “Pro” model which comes packing 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. In terms of cameras, the Jelly comes equipped with an 8-megapixel rear camera, along with a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. This is a smartphone that comes powered by an unnamed quad-core SoC (clocking at 1.1 GHz) and a small (but relatively suitable) 950 mAh battery. In spite of its size, you can expect this smartphone to come with two SIM slots (nano of course) and it will support 4G LTE. While of course, the operating system in play will be Android, although not just any old Android, but Android 7.0 (Nougat) no less.

So it is clear this is not meant to break any boundaries in terms of smartphone features, but in fairness, few are going to be looking for a phone this small that offers the best in class experience. Instead, Jelly seems to be a smartphone that is designed to be a smartphone you use alongside your existing smartphone. One which is more suited for those occasions when a 6-inch phone is just not that manageable. As the team behind Jelly puts it, “it is the ultimate answer to any situation where using a heavy, expensive primary phone is inconvenient.” If you would like to back the project, or just find out more, head through the link below. The expected shipping date for Jelly smartphones is listed as August 2017, so this might be one to watch out for.
