Nubia Z17 Flagship To Be Launched On June 1, OEM Hints

Chinese original equipment manufacturer (OEM) Nubia started sending out press invites for a launch event of its latest Android flagship that’s likely the rumored Nubia Z17. The event is scheduled to take place in China on Thursday, June 1, when the Shenzhen-based consumer electronics company is expected to officially details its latest high-end handset. The invites that are now being sent out by Nubia don’t contain any other information regarding the event.

Regardless, the Nubia Z17 was the subject of numerous reports, rumors, and leaks in recent months, and most details on the smartphone have already been revealed by a number of industry insiders. The device is expected to be of the high-end variety and compete with other premium phones in China, including the recently announced Xiaomi Mi 6. According to several reports, the Nubia Z17 will sport a 5.5-inch display panel with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels protected by 2.5D curved glass. The device is expected to be made in accordance with recent design trends, featuring thin bezels and a high screen-to-body ratio. Numerous benchmark listings of the supposed Nubia Z17 suggested that the handset will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip (SoC) equipped eight cores and the Adreno 540 GPU and be offered in two variants boasting 4GB and 6GB of RAM, respectively. All models will have 64GB of internal storage space that will be expandable by up to 256GB via a microSD card slot that will also double as an extra nano SIM slot.

The device is said to be waterproof and equipped with two 23-megapixel sensors with optical image stabilization (OIS) and support for 4K videos, while its top bezel is expected to feature a 16-megapixel camera. Previous renders of the handset indicated that the Nubia Z17 will sport a fingerprint scanner on its rear panel, with several industry insiders claiming that the device will ship with a 3,100mAh battery that won’t be removable, in addition to running Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, enhanced with the Nubia UI. Details on the availability and pricing of the Nubia Z17 will follow soon, likely no later than next week.
