OnePlus 5 Will Sport A 3.5mm Port, Front Fingerprint Scanner

The OnePlus 5 rumors and leaks have been arriving for weeks now, and in a sea of uncertain information, OnePlus has just confirmed that the device will sport a 3.5mm headphone jack, and that it will ship with a front-facing fingerprint scanner. Carl Pei was asked to tweet about the 3.5mm headphone jack, and by releasing the “Why did the headphone jack cross the road?” message on Twitter, he more or less confirmed that the headphone jack will be included on the device. This tweet also suggests that the 3.5mm headphone jack is changing its position, it seems like it will be included on the top of the phone, while it was placed on the bottom of the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T.

Now, in addition to Carl Pei’s cryptic confirmation that a 3.5mm headphone jack will be a part of the OnePlus 5 package, OnePlus founder, Liu Zuotu, also confirmed that the phone will ship with a front-facing fingerprint scanner. Liu Zuotu released a seemingly innocent OnePlus 5 post on Weibo (Chinese social network) recently, a post that does not contain any sensitive info. Well, one user decided to ask him whether the phone will sport a front-facing fingerprint scanner, Mr. Zuotu simply answered ‘Yes’, which is a rather clear confirmation. This probably means that the fingerprint scanner will be placed below the display (just like it is on the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T), it is unlikely that we will see an in-display fingerprint scanner on the OnePlus 5, though anything is possible at this point.

There you have it, more confirmations from OnePlus. In addition to this, the company already confirmed that the phone will, indeed be called the OnePlus 5, and in addition to that, it confirmed that the device will be announced this summer. OnePlus did not reveal when exactly is the phone coming, but chances are it will be announced next month, in June, as its predecessor arrived in June last year. The OnePlus 5 will be quite a powerful device, it is rumored to sport a 5.5-inch fullHD or QHD AMOLED display, along with 6GB or 8GB of RAM and more than one storage variant. The device will be fueled by the Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core processor, and it will ship with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, while the company’s OxygenOS will be placed on top of Android.
