OnePlus has decided to bring the British telephone box back into action by introducing its Dash Charge feature into the boxes. For decades, the British telephone box has been considered an iconic feature of the United Kingdom. However, as time has passed and telephones have evolved, the telephone box has continued to be used less frequently. There has been a 90% drop in payphone usage over the last 10 years and this is mainly due to the fact that people are using mobile phones more often, so OnePlus wants to use Dash Charge to “rejuvenate a British icon.”
BT has created a plan where you are able to adopt a telephone box for only £1. By doing so, each box can be renovated in a way that can help the community. OnePlus are looking to incorporate Dash Charge technology into some of these boxes to help keep their users charged and connected wherever they may be. By having Dash Charge in telephone boxes, its users can access its fast USB Type-c charging in a variety of locations across the country, making sure they’re always up and running.
Dash Charge telephone boxes have the potential to be of good use to the iconic feature that seems to be falling into the background. In addition to that, OnePlus has outlined a few other potential conversions that could be made to the boxes. One of these ideas is to turn a few boxes into a shared community fridge to not only help to prevent food waste but to bring everyone in the community closer together and improve the social responsibility of OnePlus. It may seem like this plan could cost a lot of money and take up a lot of time, but that is far from the case. It costs £1 to adopt the box and the key word to take from that is adopt. Once the campaign is over, OnePlus will not own the boxes, meaning no one has to worry about their ownership or what to do with them. On top of that, it could only take around 3 months to have the boxes up and running, as they are already connected to the National Grid meaning the worry of finding the power to connect the boxes virtually disappears. Not only will this plan allow for OnePlus users to get a days power in half an hour, as OnePlus have previously stated, it also helps to bring back an iconic cultural feature of the UK.
