Owners of Samsung Galaxy S8 who decide to return their smartphones due to defects can keep their Samsung Gear VR headset. The smartphone manufacturer has bundled its Samsung Gear VR headset and controller, worth around $130, upon the purchase of its flagship smartphones, Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus for free. According to a report from Phone Arena, an owner of Samsung Galaxy S8 has decided to return his smartphone after his device still had a red-tinted display upon the supposed fix for the said issue. After communicating with Samsung, the owner was told he could keep the Samsung Gear VR headset even after returning the smartphone to the manufacturer without any impact on the refund itself.
While Samsung’s launch of its latest flagships has been somewhat smooth sailing compared to the disastrous Samsung Galaxy Note 7 launch, there were still some issues plaguing the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. Among them are the red-tinted displays found in some units of Samsung’s latest flagships. Even though Samsung has stated that the reddish display is not a defect, the company has released an update that allows the users to better adjust the color balance of the display according to their preference. Another issue affecting some units of Samsung Galaxy S8 is related to the phone’s Wi-Fi connectivity, specifically to an access point used by a Korean carrier. Like what Samsung has done with its red-tinted displays, Samsung has released an update to fix this issue, though the update is only released to South Korean handsets.
While there are people who seek to return their units, many others are still interested in buying the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus. People who are interested in buying the handset may buy it on or before May 25 to receive the Samsung Gear VR headset and controller for free, which is a great value addition to an already well-received phone. For others who plan to return their Samsung Galaxy S8, the Samsung Gear VR is compatible with previous Samsung Galaxy flagships starting from Samsung Galaxy S6 onwards. Therefore, owners may still put their VR headsets to great use even if they have returned the smartphone it originally came with.
