A video depicting what’s said to be the front panel of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 appeared online on Thursday, showing a brief look at the supposed part of Samsung’s upcoming phablet. If accurate, the leak indicates that the South Korean tech giant will stick with the design language introduced with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, as panel shown in the video features extremely thin top and bottom bezels and is seemingly meant to shield an 18.5:9 screen. Industry insiders recently suggested that the Galaxy Note 8 will boast a 6.3-inch display, though the newly emerged video doesn’t confirm that given how the supposed front panel of the handset isn’t shown next to anything for scale. The panel revealed in the new leak is black, which will likely be at least one color variant of Samsung’s upcoming Android flagship, though no other details are revealed by the nine-second video that can be seen below.
According to recent reports, the Galaxy Note 8 will be similar to the Galaxy S8 series in terms of internal hardware, as the phone is expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 and Samsung’s Exynos 8895 chip, depending on the region, in addition to featuring 4GB or 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal flash memory that will likely be expandable. The device will ship with some version of Android Nougat enhanced with Samsung’s proprietary mobile software suite and is expected to be offered in dual-SIM variants in certain markets.
While last year’s Galaxy Note 7 debacle cast some doubt over the future of the Galaxy Note lineup, Samsung promptly dismissed speculation that it’s discontinuing its phablet series, with its mobile chief DJ Koh saying that the Seoul-based consumer electronics manufacturer won’t be letting down fans of its S Pen-equipped product family by scrapping future Galaxy Note handsets. Samsung already confirmed that the Galaxy Note 8 will be released in the second half of the year though it’s still unclear when the company is planning to announce it. IFA 2017 organizers previously called for the tech giant to unveil its new Android flagship at the Berlin-based trade show in early September, but its announcement may arrive sooner given how the Galaxy Note 8 is already expected to hit the market by late summer.
