A Samsung-made smartphone bearing the model number SM-J730 — likely the upcoming Galaxy J7 (2017) — was listed in the database of popular benchmarking tool GFXBench on Friday. Apart from 3GB of RAM, the listing suggests that the device will sport a 12-megapixel rear camera and a similar front sensor, both of which will be capable of recording 4K photos and FullHD videos. The main camera of the device will also support autofocus, touch focus, and face detection, in addition to being equipped with a regular LED flash, the listing suggests, without describing the front camera of the Galaxy J7 (2017) in an equally detailed manner.
According to the same source, Samsung’s upcoming mid-range smartphone will be powered by the Exynos 7870, the company’s proprietary system-on-chip (SoC) featuring eight cores clocked at 1.5GHz and the ARM Mali-T830 GPU. The chipset was manufactured using the 14nm process and has already debuted in the Galaxy J7 (2016), Galaxy A3 (2017), and the Galaxy J7 Prime. The GFXBench listing of the handset also reveals that Samsung is planning to release its next mid-range smartphone with 16GB of internal storage space that will presumably be expandable via a microSD card slot. Likewise, the source indicates that the phone will ship with Android 7.0 Nougat running out of the box, presumably enhanced with Samsung’s proprietary user interface.
According to previous reports, the Galaxy J7 (2017) will feature a fingerprint sensor similar to the one that debuted on the Galaxy J7 Prime, a mostly metal device that’s said to be visually similar to the model that was now listed on GFXBench. Industry sources recently claimed that the smartphone will be carried by AT&T, Sprint, and more mobile service providers in the future, though its pricing and availability details are still unknown. Regardless, seeing how the Galaxy J7 (2017) was already certified by the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), its stateside launch likely isn’t too far away. While the phone doesn’t seem to be a significant upgrade over its direct predecessor, it may still serve as a viable option for people on the lookout for an affordable mid-range Android handset.
