The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will feature a 6.3-inch display panel, one industry insider from China said on Monday. Apart from revealing the supposed screen size of Samsung’s upcoming phablet, the same source also reiterated previous reports about a dual camera setup that will allegedly be presented on the back panel of the Galaxy Note 8. While it remains to be seen whether the successor to the discontinued Galaxy Note 7 becomes the first Samsung-made smartphone with a dual-lens main camera, most industry sources agree that the handset will certainly sport such a setup, meaning that the already hardly noticeable camera bump present on the Galaxy Note 7, Galaxy S8, and the Galaxy S8 Plus will likely be completely eliminated on the company’s upcoming flagship.
Furthermore, given how Samsung is expected to stick with the 18.5:9 aspect ratio introduced with the Galaxy S8 lineup, the Galaxy Note 8 will seemingly be an extremely tall smartphone, as the rumored 6.3-inch (over 16cm) diagonal of its screen will result in handset that should be noticeably taller than the already elongated Galaxy S8 Plus that features a 6.2-inch display panel. While no other details regarding its screen real estate have yet been provided by industry insiders, the Galaxy Note 8 is widely believed to feature a Super AMOLED QHD+ panel protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5. Apart from the S Pen stylus that’s been a hallmark of the Galaxy Note series ever since the Galaxy Note N7000 that was introduced in late 2011, the Galaxy Note 8 is thought to be powered by the Exynos 8895, Samsung’s first 10nm system-on-chip (SoC) that’s also powering the Galaxy S8 series. According to previous reports, the handset will feature between 4GB and 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage space that will be expandable via a microSD card slot.
The high-end smartphone is expected to ship with some build of Android Nougat enhanced with Samsung’s proprietary user interface and may feature a fingerprint scanner that will be embedded into its display panel, industry sources have claimed in recent weeks. The Seoul-based tech giant previously confirmed that the Galaxy Note 8 will be released in the second half of 2017, so more details on the upcoming flagship should be available shortly.
