Samsung Gives A Detailed Look Into The Galaxy S8's Internals

Samsung Electronics on Friday published a detailed breakdown of the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus, its new Android flagship duo that was officially released last month to much success, at least according to initial reports. The company’s official teardown of its latest premium handset family is as much of a commercial as it is informative, though it does provide consumers with yet another in-depth look into the internal components of the critically acclaimed smartphones.

Among other things, the Seoul-based consumer electronics manufacturer details its new Infinity Display that features an unconventional 18.5:9 aspect ratio and is protected by the Gorilla Glass 5 that’s said to be significantly stronger than the previous generation of Corning’s toughened glass. Samsung highlights a pressure sensor that was integrated beneath the display of the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus in an effort to provide feedback that’s relatively similar to that of a physical Home button that the company removed from its new high-end smartphone lineup. The tech giant also redesigned its mobile cooling solution for the new handsets as the gap between the Application Processor (AP) and the phone’s heat pipe has now been minimized with the goal of draining the heat away from the hottest component of the device as efficiently as possible. The new design allows the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus to handle any graphically intensive task without overheating, Samsung claims. The South Korean firm also highlighted the batteries powering its new smartphones, adding that they were created to be stable and reliable, as well as more resistant to battery degradation than traditional lithium-ion cells are. The batteries in both devices are protected by a layer of rubber that’s meant to protect them from shocks, consequently improving their reliability, Samsung claims. Some industry watchers are already predicting that Samsung’s new pair of Android-powered handsets will outsell most — if not all — competitors released this year, as it’s projected to hit up to 60 million sales by the end of 2017. An update on the commercial performance of the Galaxy S8 series will likely be available this summer.
