Samsung has managed to sell 55 million Galaxy S7 units thus far, according to the source. This information comes from Strategy Analytics, actually, and the source also mentions that the company managed to sell 7.2 million Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge units in the first quarter of this year. Now, that might not sound like much for the company’s flagship devices (the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus were not announced until the end of March), but do keep in mind that both of those phones were introduced back in February last year, which means that the company managed to pull off such high sales numbers even a year after the two devices got announced.
Now, the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco probably has something to do with the overall sales numbers of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, considering that many consumers switched to one of the two devices. Samsung had managed to sell around 45 million Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge units, according to some projections, which means that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge were considerably more successful for this Korea-based tech giant. Now, in addition to all that, the source mentions that Samsung managed to sell 92.8 million handsets in the first quarter of 2017, and 92.8% of those devices were smartphones, which means that the company sold around 80 million smartphones in the first quarter of this year. Now, if we transfer that to global sales, that means that Samsung managed to grab 23% of the global smartphone market, and is, once again, in the lead.
It remains to be seen how many Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus units will Samsung be able to sell in the coming year or so, but it seems like the company is planning to sell over 60 million before the end of this year, at least according to some reports. This seems like a really difficult task, even for Samsung, but do keep in mind that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are a considerable step away from the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, at least in the design department. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are amongst the most compelling devices out there in terms of the design, and pre-orders have been through the roof, so Samsung surely has reasons to be optimistic when it comes to the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus sales.
