Sharp To Launch A 'Bezel-Less' Smartphone In China On May 24

It seems like Sharp is planning to release a new bezel-less smartphone in China on May 24, at least according to the latest info. This report comes from China, and not only did CNMO shared Sharp’s launch teaser with us, but we also get to check out a leak of the company’s upcoming smartphone. Now, Sharp’s devices were mostly limited to Japan thus far, as Sharp is a Japanese smartphone manufacturer, but the company was acquired by Foxconn a while back, and it seems like we’ll see Sharp’s phones launched elsewhere in the future.

If you take a look at the gallery down below, you’ll get the aforementioned teaser, and the company’s leaked smartphone. Now, as you can see, this device has quite a bit of ‘chin’ below the display, while its bezels on the sides and above the display are quite thin, but they’re still there, so this won’t exactly be a bezel-less smartphone, at least if this leak is to be believed, but it still looks interesting. The upper side of the device resembles the Galaxy S8 a bit due to thin bezel, and rounded display corner. Based on the provided images, this smartphone won’t exactly be extremely thin, and it will sport a fingerprint scanner below its display, though we still don’t know if this is a physical home key as well, or just a capacitive home button, we’ll just have to wait and see. The device’s volume up, volume down and power / lock buttons can be found on the right-hand side of the device’s body, and the phone will sport a single rear-facing camera.

That being said, we do not know what will this phone be called, nor what specs will it ship with, but truth be told, we’d expect it to sport less bezel. Sharp’s teaser suggests that the phone will ship with really thin bezels, and that chin on the bottom of the leaked device is quite big, which would be okay if bezels weren’t present elsewhere. The company’s Aquos Crystal 2 and Aquos Xx smartphones were really interesting to look at, and one would think Sharp will release a phone similar to those two devices in China. It is, however, possible that the leaked devices is only a concept phone, maybe Sharp is planning to release something completely different on May 24, who knows.
