Snapdragon 835 To Blame For Xiaomi Mi 6 Stock Shortages

The Xiaomi Mi 6 has been in short supply ever since Xiaomi started selling the device, why is that? Well, if an insider source is to be believed, slow / demanding production process is not to blame here, nor is Xiaomi doing that on purpose. The source claims that the main components for the device are not supplied in high quantities, and the grade of material used on the design of the Xiaomi Mi 6 is too high, which makes the whole process of creating the device a bit more difficult than it should be.

Now, the main component that is slowing down the manufacturing process of the Mi 6 is the ceramic back that one particular variant of the device is using. That ceramic back is 8 times harder than the glass back on other Mi 6 variants it seems, and not only is it not easy to manufacture, but it’s also not cheap to make. Now, some of you probably know that the Xiaomi Mi 6 ships with the Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core SoC, and as you might have guessed by now, that SoC is in short supply as well, and that is yet another major component that is holding back Xiaomi Mi 6 sales in China. Samsung needs a ton of those SoCs for the company’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus devices, and that is the main problem for Xiaomi, while some other OEMs are trying to get their hands on that chip as well.

Now, other than what we’ve mentioned, all the other components don’t seem all that difficult to acquire, at least according to the aforementioned insider source. So, as soon as Xiaomi manages to secure enough Snapdragon 835 SoC units, we should see considerably larger quantities of the Xiaomi Mi 6 available for purchase. Now, Xiaomi had promised larger stock of the Xiaomi Mi 6 units for the upcoming sales festival which kicks off tomorrow in China, it will be interesting to see how many units will the company be able to prepare for it. The Mi 5, aside from the Snapdragon 835, also packs in 6GB of RAM and 64GB / 128GB of native storage. The device also comes with a set of two 12-megapixel snappers on its back, and Android Nougat comes pre-installed on the phone with the company’s MIUI 8 OS.
