The Sony Xperia L1 is the latest budget smartphone from Sony, and it has just launched in the US for a price of $199. This is a pretty low-price for a Sony smartphone, and it is unlocked. So you’ll be able to use it on your favorite GSM carrier like T-Mobile or AT&T. Sony offers the Xperia L1 in three colors – black, white and pink. It also features a pretty impressive 5-inch 720p display (impressive for the price point).
Other specs on Sony’s Xperia L1 include the MediaTek MT6737T quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM for multi-tasking, 16GB of storage and a micro SD card slot that can accommodate up to 256GB of additional space. There’s also a 5-megapixel camera on the front and a 13-megapixel camera around back for getting some incredible pictures. Sony has also included a 2620mAh battery, which when combined with Sony’s STAMINA technology, it should last all day pretty easily. There is a USB-C port, probably the only smartphone in this price range with USB-C, since most of the others have been sticking with micro USB. Additionally it does run on Android Nougat, so you are getting the latest version of Android, which is always great to see.
Sony isn’t really well known for putting out smartphones at low prices with incredible specs. So seeing a smartphone from them coming in at just $200 is rather impressive, since they usually charge a premium for their devices. The Xperia L1 isn’t going to win any awards for impressive specs, or a cutting-edge design. But those that are in need of a smartphone that they can use for checking email, browsing Twitter and the basic stuff, the Xperia L1 will definitely suffice. The Xperia L1 has skipped the pre-order stage and is just openly available in the US. So you can pick it up from either Amazon or B&H Photo, take your pick. Both are offering up two-day delivery. While Amazon has the Xperia L1 available as part of their Amazon Prime shipping, so you can get it next day, if you are willing to pay a bit more (depends on your location, but it’s usually around $4 for next day shipping).
