Telus has just started the transition of 100,000 Bell MTS wireless customers following Bell’s earlier acquisition of Manitoba Telecom Services (MTS). As part of the $3.9 billion deal, Bell stated that approximately 100,000 MTS customers and 15 of its stores would be given to Telus, and Telus has now started sending mailed packages to customers to let them know if they are one of those chosen to be migrated. The rollout of the packages will take around two months to be completed, with customers being informed of what they need to do next to complete the process.
Telus says that plans and rates for new customers will be at least the same or above current MTS plans in value, and has assured existing customers that they will be able to keep their current phone numbers. In addition, Telus states that migrated customers will benefit from a much-improved network in different areas of Manitoba thanks to a network sharing agreement between itself and Bell. Customers receiving the packages will be provided with a brief introduction to Telus for its new customers as well as a letter from Bell. Following this, another ‘welcome’ package will be distributed in the next few weeks that details the transition process and also contains a new SIM card to be used with existing phone numbers. This package will also contain information about Telus retail locations, and a helpline for additional support if customers need it. Users first need to evaluate the new Telus package and compare it with their previous Bell MTS plans and can choose between keeping their existing device or upgrading it before starting to use the new SIM card.
Telus spokesperson Liz Sauve said that the company wanted to ensure a smooth and positive transition as well as superior service for its new customers. In addition to the previously mentioned aspect of the Bell acquisition of MTS, Xplornet will also acquire 24,700 Bell MTS subscribers for its own wireless network as well as six stores. However, that transition won’t begin immediately and is slated to start in a few months. An update on the situation will likely follow later this year.
