UberEATS Food Delivery Services Now Available In India

Uber‘s food delivery service UberEATS is now available to select customers in India, as revealed by a newly launched section of the UberEATS official website. The service officially rolled out in the South Asian country on Tuesday morning and will initially only be available to users in Mumbai, though the San Francisco-based tech giant will presumably be looking to expand its availability in the near future.

As expected, the service is available through the company’s UberEATS: Food Delivery Android app that’s available for download from the Google Play Store, though customers are also able to offer deliveries directly from the UberEATS website. The platform currently supports more than 200 restaurants in Mumbai and will be available for the entirety of their working hours, the company said. Uber’s drivers will be aiming to deliver your orders in 35 minutes at most, though it remains to be seen whether the service proves to be as efficient as advertised, especially considering its relatively low price. All delivery fees will amount to 15 Indian rupees, which translates to less than 25 cents, and neither Uber nor its partner restaurants have set a minimum order value of deliveries. Furthermore, costumers interested in trying out the service can use the “EATNOW50” promo code in the UberEATS app to receive a ₹50 discount on their first five orders, Uber announced. The initial version of the service supports Paytm-powered payments and cash, though more options will likely be introduced in the near future.

UberEATS started as one of Uber’s many side ventures and the service still isn’t generating significant revenue for the company, industry watchers believe. However, as Uber continues striving to diversify its business portfolio while simultaneously developing self-driving vehicles that are meant to serve as the backbone of its future operations, services like UberEATS will likely expand to more cities and countries in the future. Residents of Mumbai can start using the service by following the Google Play Store link beneath this writing and downloading its dedicated app. An update on Uber’s efforts to build on its ride-hailing business and become a sustainable company is expected to follow later this year.
