The April security update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 has finally arrived for Verizon subscribers. The mobile carrier has described this software update to fix existing issues and apply the newest security patches. Galaxy Note 5 owners on Verizon would also be pleased to know that the mobile carrier has tested the April security update thoroughly, making sure that your phablet will achieve optimal device performance after installation, greatly diminishing the chances of experiencing any crashes or bugs. The release of the April security update by Verizon is a follow-up to the Android 7.0 Nougat update that was released for the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus in the second half of last month.
One of the most critical vulnerabilities was patched up with this update, where exploiting a security loophole would allow remote code execution on an affected device via a variety of methods like email, web browsing, and MMS when processing media files. Apart from numerous fixes to known vulnerabilities and a range of issues found in Android, the new software package also contains Samsung-specific patches. Nevertheless, the Galaxy Note 5 still lags behind in security updates as Google rolled out the May security patch earlier this week for supported Pixel and Nexus devices. It remains to be seen whether Verizon will be able to keep pace with the monthly security updates for its Android-powered devices, but being behind Google by a month isn’t too bad and to be fair, AT&T and Sprint’s Galaxy Note 5 is currently running the April security update as well.
It is highly advisable to connect the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 to a stable Wi-Fi network before proceeding with the download and installation of the update. Do take note that having at least 50 percent of battery life left is also recommended in order not to have the device run out of power in the middle of an update. Also, it is best to perform a backup of your important data (photos, videos, and other vital files) prior to applying the April security update in case anything goes wrong and you end up losing data due to any reason.
