ZTE A2018 Gets Certified, Is This The ZTE Axon 8 Flagship?

It seems like the ZTE Axon 8 has just surfaced on TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC), which essentially means that the phone has been certified in China. This handset comes with a model number ZTE A2018, though it’s quite possible we’re looking at the ZTE Axon 8 here, not only because of its design, but also its specifications, and the fact that the ZTE Axon 7’s model number was ZTE A2017. This handset is extremely similar to the ZTE Axon 7s which was announced quite recently, but there are some differences. This handset’s rear-facing camera setup is somewhat taller, and there are some other subtle differences between the two devices.

In any case, this handset is made out of metal, and it comes with a set of three capacitive buttons below its display, just like the Axon 7(s). This phone sports a dual camera setup on the back, as already mentioned, and it also comes with a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. The company’s branding is placed on the back of the device, and all of its physical keys can be found on the right side of its body, volume up, volume down and power / lock keys. As far as specs go, the ZTE A2018 sports a 5.5-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) AMOLED display, just like its predecessor, while it packs in 4GB of RAM and 64GB / 128GB / 256GB of expandable internal storage (expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card). The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 821 64-bit quad-core processor, while Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow comes pre-installed on it with ZTE’s custom UI. We are hoping that Android Nougat will come out of the box once the phone becomes official, this is just a test unit that was certified, keep that in mind.

The ZTE A2018 sports two cameras on the back, 20-megapixel and 12-megapixel shooters, while an 8-megapixel camera is placed on the front side of this smartphone. A 3,320mAh battery is also included in this package, and it is not removable, in case you were wondering. The ZTE A2018 measures 151.7 x 75 x 7.7mm, while it weighs 170 grams. That being said, based on the phone’s model number and everything else, this is quite probably the ZTE Axon 8, as we’ve already mentioned, though it remains to be seen whether that’s accurate or not. ZTE had introduced the ZTE Axon 7 back in May last year, so the ZTE Axon 8 is expected to launch before the end of this month, stay tuned.
