Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 is currently getting a new update. And those that own the tablet will be excited to know that it is indeed the much anticipated Android 7.0 Nougat update for their tablet. This is for the T713, which is the WiFi version of the 8-inch Galaxy Tab S2. It’s a fairly large update, as you’d expect, so you’ll want to make sure that you are connected to decent WiFi and then begin downloading the update. The Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 should also have at least 50% battery left, before attempting to install the update. This way the tablet does not die in the middle of the update, and risk bricking your tablet.
The update to Android Nougat isn’t a big one for the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0, seeing as the headlining feature of Nougat was actually multi-window, a feature that Samsung has put in their devices for many years already. But it will make the tablet smoother, as well as allowing for even better standby battery life. Nougat introduces a more enhanced or robust version of Doze. This means that the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 will go into deep sleep sooner, thus using less power when in standby, and lasting even longer. This is especially useful on a tablet, since we don’t use tablets all day long like our smartphones.
This update from Samsung comes in the form of build number T713XXU2BQD3 for those that are interested. It’s rolling out in a staged update right now, which means you may be able to pull it down now, or you may have to wait a few days. You can head to Settings, tap on About Tablet, then System Updates and tap on Check for Updates. If you are able to pull down the update, it should take a bit to download and install. Remember that it will take longer than usual to reboot. This is due to the fact that the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 is rebuilding the cache and such, which takes time, but will make the tablet run faster and smoother once it’s back up and running like normal. This is Android 7.0 Nougat, and with the latest security patch (the specific date is not yet specified).
