AT&T’s DIRECTV NOW is now finally streaming on Roku’s line of products. When the service was announced, and launched late last year, the company had noted that it would be available on Roku in the first quarter of 2017. Needless to say, AT&T is a tad late, but it is here before the end of Q2, so that’s worth something. Roku is calling this an “early release” of DIRECTV NOW on their service, and that is true. This is the first release, so as expected, there will be some growing pains, and possibly even some bugs on the Roku platform. That’s a bit unfortunate, but that comes with the territory.
According to Roku’s blog post, the DIRECTV NOW channel works on the Roku 2, Roku 3, Roku 4, Roku Streaming Stick, Roku Express, Roku Express+, Roku Premiere, Roku Premiere+ and Roku Ultra. Not to mention all of the Roku TV 4K models also have support. The company also states that they will be working with AT&T to add support for even more Roku devices in the coming months. To celebrate the launch of DIRECTV NOW on Roku, the company is offering up a free month of DIRECTV NOW using the promo code ROKU1MONTH. That is longer than the typical 7-day free trial that DIRECTV NOW offers. It’s also worth noting that this trial is only applicable to new customers, and not current DIRECTV NOW customers, unfortunately.
DIRECTV NOW is AT&T’s OTT streaming service, which offers up to 120 channels streaming over the internet. They have about four plans available for users, which starts at just $35/month which will get you around 60 channels. And it goes up to $70/month for the full 120. DIRECTV NOW is continuing to work to bring more features to the service, but as for now, they are missing a few key features like a cloud DVR, which is something that PlayStation VUE has and Sling TV is beta testing (on Roku, actually). They do offer 72-hour rewind, but that only works on select networks, unfortunately. You can check out the free trial for Roku customers using the link down below.
