Google Home for Canada is now available for pre-order for anyone in the region that has been waiting to get their hands on the A.I.-powered smart speaker. Those who are interested in placing the pre-order can pick it up from the Google Store Canada, as well as Best Buy Canada, and the cost will set customers back $179 CAD. Google says it’ll be available in both English and French versions so no matter which of the two languages customers speak it should be able to accommodate them.
Google initially announced that Google Home was coming to Canada back during Google I/O 2017, but it didn’t mention an exact date, or a price, or where it would be available. All Google did mention was that it would be available in the Summer. Now with Google’s post today all of that information has been detailed. In addition to the Google Store and Best Buy Canada, Google Home will also be available at Bell, Indigo, London Drugs, Telus, Rogers, Staples, The Source, Visions, and at Walmart. It’ll be available for purchase at those locations starting on June 26th, so there is still a few more weeks to wait for customers to be able to pick it up in store at one of those locations physically, though as mentioned above if customers want to get a head start they can place their pre-orders today through the Google Store or Best Buy.
While Google does already sell bases for the Google Home speaker in the U.S., they won’t be available in Canada just yet which means customers in the region will be limited to the base that comes with their Google Home units. The Google Home bases are listed on the Google Store in Canada though so they will be available eventually as they are listed as “coming soon.” While there is a lack of a release date for the bases and it’s not immediately clear if all of the color and material options will be available, the Google Store in Canada does list the cost which is $55 CAD, though this likely goes up for the metal ones as these also cost more in the U.S., and $55 is probably the cost for the different colored fabric models.
