The Kyocera DA58 has recently passed through the FCC for certification. Though there isn’t much in the way of details about this device right now, judging by the image below of the label where the FCC logo will be placed, it seems that it’s possible to tell the general shape of the device based on the outline, which also shows that the rear-facing camera placement will be in the middle of the device as opposed to in the top left corner like on many devices. The image below also shows a small diagram with a microSD card, so this device will have support for expandable storage, though what size cards it will support are unknown as is the amount of internal storage. Other than that, the image doesn’t really provide any other information, but there might be some useful details in the test report documents that are part of the FCC filing.
For example, the test report does mention that the device is in a pre-production status, which means that Kyocera isn’t already producing these devices which means that it’s likely still a ways off before it will be launched. Since Kyocera hasn’t officially announced what this device is it’s also not clear where the device will land in terms of carrier compatibility, though most of the four major carriers in the U.S. have been known to carry a Kyocera smartphone or two so it this phone could very well end up at some of or all of the major carriers when it launches.
The most recent Kyocera phone to launch on a U.S.-based carrier was the Kyocera DuraForce Pro which recently landed on the T-Mobile network, but because the model number starts with the letter E on the DuraForce Pro and not the letter D this particular device is not one that seems to be part of the DuraForce series of smartphones. Kyocera does have a pretty long track record of putting out rugged devices though, so there’s a good chance that whatever this phone is it will probably have some ruggedized design elements to it which will cater to consumers looking for something that’s capable of taking a beating and withstanding things like dust, water, shock and other types of damage.
