A supposed render of the OnePlus 5 surfaced online on Tuesday, revealing a device with a dual camera setup consisting of two horizontally arranged lenses placed in the top-left corner of its rear plate. The sensors are flanked by a regular LED flash unit situated to their immediate right and form a noticeable camera bump that protrudes from the smartphone. The newly uncovered render also indicates that the OnePlus 5 will feature a volume rocker on the right side of its case and as there’s no sign of a rear-mounted fingerprint reader, that scanner will instead likely be embedded into the physical Home button on the bottom bezel of the device. Finally, the phone depicted in the render that can be seen above also sports a matte black matte finish which may be one of the official color variants of the upcoming handset.
The Chinese original equipment manufacturer (OEM) just accidentally confirmed that the OnePlus 5 will feature a dual camera setup, though it’s still unclear whether the two lenses will be arranged in a horizontal or vertical manner. While recent leaks including this one suggested the former, some other renders also hinted at the later and with reports on the handset being so inconsistent, its actual camera setup likely won’t be revealed until June 20, when the Shenzhen, Guangdong-based phone maker said it will launch its latest Android flagship. Previous official teasers indicated that the camera system of the OnePlus 5 will perform better in low-light conditions than that of its predecessor did, and the company recently revealed that French imaging software firm DxO Labs participated in the development of the device, implying that photography may be one of the handset’s strongest suits.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip (SoC) has also been confirmed as the piece of silicon that’s set to power the OnePlus 5, though it remains to be seen whether the device will launch with 6GB or 8GB of RAM. OnePlus might end up offering both, as some industry insiders previously said that the Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer is planning to release two variants of its latest premium smartphone, similar to how it launched two models of the OnePlus 3T. More details on the upcoming high-end handset are expected to follow in the coming days.
