Nubia has now officially launched its flagship for the year, the Nubia Z17. Like any other modern day flagship, it is loaded with high-end specifications and features including a bezel-less display. However, a noticeable bezels can still be found on the top and bottom. It’s an approach similar to last year’s Nubia Z11, the smartphone that the Nubia Z17 is replacing. The unique thing about the flagship is that it offers up to 8GB of RAM which makes it only one of the few smartphones in the world to do so.
To start off, the Nubia Z17 features a 5.5-inch Full HD In-Cell display with Corning Gorilla Glass. Under the hood, it has the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset clocked at 2.45GHz along with Adreno 540 GPU. In the camera department, there is a 23-megapixel and 12-megapixel dual camera setup on the back which is capable of offering up to 2x optical zoom. It also features f/2.0 and f/1.8 aperture respectively along with Dual Pixel autofocus. On the front, there is a 16-megapixel camera which has an 80-degree wide-angle lens with f/2.0 aperture. The whole package is powered by a 3200mAh battery which supports Qualcomm’s latest Quick Charge 4.0 for fast charging. In terms of build and design, the flagship boasts metal unibody design. The phone has no 3.5mm headphone jack.
Nubia’s latest offering has been made available in three configurations: 6GB of RAM with 64GB/128GB of internal storage and 8GB of RAM with 128GB of internal storage. It is worth mentioning that both variants feature LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.1 storage. Other features include an IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, NFC, Dolby Atmos speakers, an IR blaster, and Nubia’s own Frame Interactive Technology 3.0 (FiT). It will be shipping with Nubia UI 5.0 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with the NeoSmart intelligence engine, a feature aimed at optimizing the software experience by tracking your usage habits. There are five color options including Black, Gold, Blue (only for the 8GB RAM model), Soft Gold, and Black Gold (only for the 6GB RAM/128GB storage model). If interested, you will be able to grab the 6GB/64GB Nubia Z17 for 2799 Yuan (about $410) and 6GB/128GB model for 3399 Yuan (about $500). As for the 8GB/128GB model, you will need to shell out 3999 Yuan (about $590). All three models are currently up for pre-orders which will go on until June 5th with sales starting from the next day.
