The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will be launched in late August, industry sources said on Wednesday. Samsung’s upcoming phablet that’s set to succeed the discontinued Galaxy Note 7 will reportedly be introduced immediately before the iPhone 8, insiders said, adding that the South Korean consumer electronics manufacturer is specifically looking to beat the upcoming iPhone to the market in an effort to improve the sales of the Galaxy Note 8. Organizers of IFA Berlin 2017 previously called for Samsung to unveil the new Galaxy Note-series flagship at the German trade show in September, though the tech giant was always unlikely to do so given its product release strategy, with the latest report from South Korea giving more credence to the possibility of the company launching the Galaxy Note 8 sooner than that.
The Seoul-based phone maker employed a similar release strategy with the Galaxy Note 7 and that approach may have indirectly led to the discontinuation of the phablet, with some industry watchers saying that Samsung rushed the production of its 2016 device in an effort to beat the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus to the market and consequently ended up shipping a faulty handset that was prone to catching fire and exploding. Samsung later detailed the issues that led to the Galaxy Note 7 ordeal, vowing to improve its design, quality assurance, and manufacturing practices in the future, so another incident of a similar magnitude is unlikely to happen this year.
The Galaxy Note 8 has already been the subject of a number of leaks, with industry insiders claiming that the device will sport a dual camera setup on its rear panel and feature a Super AMOLED Infinity Display with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio that already debuted on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. The upcoming flagship will likely have a somewhat larger screen that’s said to sport a 6.3-inch diagonal and its U.S. variant is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip (SoC). Other models are said to ship with the Exynos 8895 and all versions of the handset will possibly feature 6GB of RAM, in addition to boasting a new generation of Samsung’s S Pen stylus. More details on the Galaxy Note 8 should follow in the coming weeks.
