Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are receiving a Bluetooth connectivity fix that is now arriving in the United Kingdom after first landing in the United Arab Emirates last week. The newest Samsung flagship smartphones have received plenty of praise since they released in April, but there have also been some complaints about various issues. One of those problems pertained to a Bluetooth bug that was noticed by some users when using music player controls with an in-car entertainment system or via a wireless speaker, with the consequence being that the smartphone would reboot or lose connection.
The connectivity fix for the Galaxy S8 is now rolling out in the UK, with the software update notification describing improvements for Bluetooth connectivity and stability. The changelog also lists improved stability for the microSD card reader, adding that the update contains other bug fixes and performance optimizations, as well as the May security patch. The over-the-air (OTA) update is approximately 620MB in size, and if you haven’t already received the notification to download it, you can check for it manually by heading to the Settings page on your handset. From there, tap ‘Software Update’ followed by ‘Download Updates Manually.’
Not long after the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus were released, there were some complaints about their displays showing an excessive amount of red tint. After initially dismissing early reports about this, Samsung rolled out a software update that included a fix that calibrated the color balance of its devices. Another issue noted by some users pertained to a permanent screen discoloration, also known as burn-in. This happens more commonly with AMOLED displays used on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus and usually occurs when a static image is displayed over a long period of time. However, so far this problem appears to be fairly isolated. Samsung is likely to be keen to rectify any faults with its latest flagships after the Galaxy Note 7 battery controversy last year, especially as the firm is in the process of preparing to launch the Galaxy Note 8 later this year. An update on its efforts to do so should follow shortly.
