The Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 will launch in Canada on June 23 through Bell, industry sources said on Friday. Samsung’s latest rugged Android smartphone has been originally unveiled back in March and started hitting some markets a month later, but it’s still not available for purchase in many markets. The Montreal-based mobile service provider will likely be offering the device through a variety of plans and also sell it without a contract, though its exact price hasn’t been confirmed so far. Still, the handset launched in select European markets with a €259 price tag, which translates to just over $390 CAD. In light of that fact, consumers will likely be able to purchase the Galaxy Xcover 4 from Bell for around $400 CAD.
The South Korean original equipment manufacturer (OEM) previously revealed that the Galaxy Xcover 4 boasts a 5-inch LCD display panel with a conventional aspect ratio of 16:9 and a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels. The main selling point of the smartphone is its military-grade protection that should allow it to be submerged in water, resist dust, and be relatively durable in terms of surviving shock and mechanical damage. Like most handsets released by Samsung these days, the Galaxy Xcover 4 doesn’t have a removable battery, though its 2,800mAh unit should at least be able to provide users with a day of battery life at a minimum, considering the fact that it’s powering a relatively small screen and a conservative system-on-chip (SoC). The piece of silicon inside the device is Samsung’s own Exynos 7570, with the Galaxy Xcover 4 also featuring 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal flash memory that’s expandable by up to 256GB via a microSD card slot.
The phone sports a single-lens primary camera setup comprising a 13-megapixel f/1.9 sensor and a regular LED flash unit, in addition to featuring a 5-megapixel shooter on its top bezel. The Galaxy Xcover 4 runs Android 7.0 Nougat and Samsung’s proprietary mobile software suite out of the box and it’s currently unclear whether the device will eventually be updated to Android 8.0 O. With the handset reportedly launching through Bell in less than two weeks, the wireless carrier is expected to announce it in an official capacity in the coming days.
