Sprint will acquire more than 100 new retail stores from Dixon Carphone and look to expand its retail store footprint. Sprint made the announcement today on its official newsroom website, stating that the new stores will allow it to grow its presence across in the retail space. Sprint notes that it will still be operating the stores that it will be acquiring from Dixon Carphone on the same platform as Dixon that is being used currently.
It’s worth mentioning that the acquisition of these stores shouldn’t be too much of a shock as Sprint already has joint ownership of the locations with Dixon, and since Sprint is committing to continuing to operate the stores on the Dixon Carphone retail platform, not much is changing other than the fact that Sprint will have full ownership of each of those locations. Sprint doesn’t discuss any of the terms of the deal so it’s not clear what the monetary cost was for Sprint to gain full ownership, and it also doesn’t mention how many stores there are exactly, just that it happens to be more than 100 retail locations. In any case, Sprint is set to reach even more customers with fully owned and operated locations following this deal.
All the locations which Sprint is acquiring were officially referred to as Sprint Connect stores, and Sprint says the same staff that operates those locations now will be operating them following the finalization of the transition of ownership. Sprint has been making strides in adding value to its brand to enhance the overall quality of its network and customer experiences, and this particular deal seeks to build on that. Recently, Sprint announced that it would be offering a promotion to customers that gives them six months of Tidal HiFi for free without having to buy any new products or sign up for a new plan or feature. This acquisition also follows an acquisition made by Softbank, Sprint’s parent company, in which it agreed to purchase Boston Dynamics from Alphabet Inc., though no terms were disclosed for that deal either. Since Sprint Connect stores will continue to operate as they do now, store business should remain uninterrupted and continue as normal.
