Xperia XZ Premium Launches In India, Pre-Orders Opening Soon

Sony’s Xperia XZ Premium was one of the four new smartphones that the company introduced at MWC in February, and the device has now been officially launched in India. Pre-orders for the flagship will be available from tomorrow through Sony Centers, Amazon, and other licensed distributors, with the device itself launching on June 12. The price tag of the smartphone is Rs. 59,990 ($930) and following various pre-order deals in some other countries, if you place a pre-order in India you’ll get a free SRS-XB20 Wireless Bluetooth speaker that’s usually priced at Rs. 8,990, or approximately $140.

The smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core SoC paired equipped with the Adreno 540 GPU for graphics processing. One of the highlights of the phone is its camera set-up that has been improved over the Xperia XZ that released last fall. The Xperia XZ Premium has a 19-megapixel Motion Eye rear camera with Sony Exmor RS sensor, f/2.0 aperture, 6-element lens, and 4K video capture support, as well as a 13-megapixel front-facing sensor. The phone sports a 5.5-inch Triluminos display with 4K (3840 x 2160) resolution, making it a somewhat unique offering on the market. India is receiving the hybrid dual SIM version of the Xperia XZ Premium with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage that can be expanded via a microSD card slot by up to 256GB. The handset is powered by a non-removable 3,230mAh battery featuring fast battery charging via Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0, while its connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and USB 3.1 Type-C. Other key features of the Xperia XZ Premium include a fingerprint sensor, Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5, and high-resolution audio.

The phone runs Android 7.1 Nougat with Sony’s custom UI, and buyers in India can choose from Deepsea Black and Luminous Chrome color options. The handset measures 156 x 77 x 7.9mm and weighs in at 195g. The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is built of metal and glass and features dust and water-resistance. Customers who pre-order the device might receive it a few days before its official launch, though there are no guarantees in this regard. First details on the commercial performance of the Xperia XZ Premium in India should follow later this year.
