Amazon announced its new Fire TV last month at a surprise event in Seattle – where it also announced a slew of Echo devices. The new Fire TV is now available for purchase, after being up for pre-order for nearly a month. The new Fire TV is going for $69.99, and is actually more of a dongle, albeit a rather large dongle. It supports 4K Ultra HD content, and it also has HDR support, so you can get a great picture from the new Fire TV. This also makes it one of the cheaper 4K streaming set-top boxes or dongles available.
The new Fire TV does also support up to 60 fps video as well as Dolby Atmos audio, so you’re going to get some great audio as well as picture quality out of this new Fire TV. Additionally, you have a ton of different channels available, Amazon touts that there are “tens of thousands” of apps and channels available here, which provide you with access to over 500,000 movies and TV episodes. Some of the more popular ones include Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Hulu, HBO Now, Showtime, Netflix and more. Now if you’re looking for Live TV, the Fire TV has you covered as well. Seeing as popular streaming TV services like PlayStation Vue and Sling TV do support the Fire TV. Of course, you could also pick up an antenna and get OTA channels for free (Amazon does have a bundle of an antenna and the Fire TV together for $75).
As expected, the Fire TV does also have Alexa support, so using your remote you can ask Alexa to search for different movies and TV shows, or apps and games. You can also use your Echo to turn on your Fire TV and start streaming something from Amazon Prime Video and so much more. Everything you can do with Alexa on the Echo, or Echo Show, you can also do on your TV.
