The Black and White model of the Pixel 2 XL that proved to be so popular among people pre-ordering Google’s new Android smartphones that it went out of stock almost immediately after advanced orders opened earlier this month is now shipping to some customers in the United States, according to numerous reports from Reddit users shared from late last week onward. Many other orders are still getting delayed by a month or more, depending on the market, with some consumers in Canada claiming that their Black and White Pixel 2 XL units are yet to even receive a shipping date and others saying Google notified them their phones won’t be arriving until as late as December 25th. Most other variants of the two devices appear to be more readily available, at least judging by the volume of people complaining their orders were delayed.
The situation isn’t much different across the pond where users in Germany who ordered the Black and White variant of the Pixel 2 XL are getting notifications telling them their shipping date is expected in late December after Christmas, according to one source who also added that the Just Black models start shipping on November 15th in the European country. Many consumers in the United States and Canada have also apparently started receiving tracking information today, indicating that their orders have shipped, though no clear pattern can be discerned from the reports which seem to vary depending on the expected delivery dates provided by Google and its distribution partners, as well as the actual phone variants that are being delivered.
Some users who expected to have their advanced orders start shipping today are still waiting for them to be dispatched, with a number of them claiming that they’re yet to even be charged by the Alphabet-owned company and those reports appearing to be the most prevalent among people who pre-ordered the Black and White version of the larger addition to the Pixel product family. While the launch of the Pixel 2 lineup experienced some hiccups in regards to quality control issues affecting a smaller number of users, Google already extended its device warranty to two years on a global level to alleviate any related concerns and both the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are likely to remain in short supply this holiday season.
