While Google may be announcing new Pixel smartphones today in the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, that doesn’t mean that the original Pixel smartphones are going away. In fact, Google has just dropped the price on both models from last year. So the Pixel is now priced at $549, and the Pixel XL is priced at $669 for the 32GB models. That’s still a bit expensive, for a phone that is a year old, but it does appear that Google is keeping these two smartphones in its lineup, at least for now.
The Google Pixel and Pixel XL launched last fall, in fact they were announced on the same day – October 4th. These were the first smartphones made by Google – even though it was actually made by HTC. The Pixel sports a 5-inch 1080p display with a smaller 2770mAh battery, while the Pixel XL has a larger 5.5-inch Quad HD display and a 3450mAh battery inside. Otherwise, the two smartphones sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor with 4GB of RAM and either 32GB or 128GB of storage. There’s no micro SD card slot available here, for expanding storage, though. Google also has 12-megapixel cameras on the back of both smartphones, which have been hailed as some of the best smartphone cameras on the market, and it’s still a great camera nearly a year later.
While the Google Store has dropped the price of the Pixel and Pixel XL by $100, Verizon has not. The exclusive US carrier of the Pixel and Pixel XL (who are also exclusive this year as well with the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL) is still selling the two devices, but at their original prices of $649 and $769 for the 32GB models. You can do financing through both Google Store and Verizon. With the Google Store’s lower starting price, you can get the Pixel 32GB for just $22.88/month for 24 months, or the Pixel XL 32GB for $27.88 for 24 months as well. The Pixel and Pixel XL are fully unlocked, which means that they will work with AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and US Cellular here in the US. So it is a great phone to grab whether you are on Verizon or not.
