Instagram is getting ready for Halloween with a new Superzoom camera feature, as well as new Halloween-themed filters and stickers, expanding the arsenal of creative tools users have at their disposal. Each year, social media and messaging apps are infused with various Halloween-inspired content to spice things up and celebrate the holiday, and Instagram is no different. There was no doubt that Instagram would again be adding special face filters and stickers, but the new camera format will likely spark more interest. With Superzoom, Instagram users can create short videos automatically zoomed in on the subject, along with dramatic noises and music in the background for an extra suspenseful effect. Users can then send the funny video as a message to friends through Instagram Direct, or add it to their Instagram Stories.
The new Superzoom option now appears next to the Boomerang option upon opening the camera in Instagram Stories. To take advantage of it, users just have to select the Superzoom format, choose whether they want to record with their phone’s front or rear camera, and start filming. A Superzoom video lasts just three seconds by default, but users can extend it up to 15 seconds by pressing and holding the button. The option works similarly to the Boomerang tool, but with an added spooky effect just for Halloween. The new face filters, meanwhile, allow users to pose as zombies, turn from vampires into flying bats, or get wrapped up into a spooky fog. The stickers further add a bunch of Halloween-themed content such as skeleton hands, pumpkins, candy, devil horns, flying eyeballs, and more.
The new Superzoom camera format and the Halloween-themed face filters and stickers are available with the latest Instagram build (20.0) for Android and iOS. As it often is the case with Halloween content, the new features on Instagram are available on a limited-time basis and will expire on November 9th. The update to the latest Instagram version should roll out automatically for those who have enabled automatic updates on their devices. Otherwise, users can head over to Google Play Store and grab the latest update to start enjoying the new Superzoom camera and other treats.
