LG V30 Camera Review – The Content Creators' Camera

It’s been 2 years now since LG launched the first device in its content creators’ line, the V10. Since then we’ve seen significant refinements in both the V10’s successors, aptly named the V20 and now the V30 of course, and each time we’ve seen not only huge hardware changes, but also big improvements in camera hardware and software too. LG’s latest flagship in the V-series brings a brand new 16-megapixel Sony Exmor IMX 351 sensor with 10-bit HDR technology to the table, giving content creators the ability to easily film 4K HDR footage without a $50,000 professional camera rig. The results are pretty impressive, and certainly hold true to the claim of “the content creators’ camera” by LG.

We recently published our full review of the LG V30, which of course covers all the nitty gritty details of what’s included on the phone and what makes it stand out from the pack. LG might be using the V30 to show off its latest P-OLED display or the new nearly bezel-less design language it has slowly been moving to over the years, but it’s the camera portion of the phone that might be its biggest selling point. Alongside that 16-megapixel sensor around back sits another 13-megapixel Samsung sensor with a 120-degree ultra wide angle lens, something that’s been a staple on LG phones since the launch of the V10. This secondary camera takes in the full picture of everything around it, and gives a sweeping view of scenic vistas, or even the entire room that you’re in.

LG has outfitted the V30 with a brand new set of glass lenses, which it says are significantly clearer than the plastic lenses that most OEMs use on their devices. This coupled with the fact that it’s an f/1.6 lens, or the smallest f-stop rating we’ve ever seen on a smartphone, and you’ll quickly begin to understand that LG means business with its latest phone. LG has also added a slew of new features to the camera, as well as a refinement of the software’s UI and layout, helping professionals and beginners alike make more interesting content. LG’s new manual mode marketplace, Graphy, is only the tip of the iceberg here, and it’s pretty impressive to see what LG has cooked up this time around. See it in action and the final verdict in the video below!
