Microsoft announced a new major update for Outlook on Android and iOS, introducing some of the most requested calendar features, including the ability to sync shared calendars and manage calendars in a remote manner. Additionally, the update features a significantly improved events manager and at least on the Android side of things, the new software package also introduces support for Meetup.
The latest major update for Outlook on mobile will allow users to view and edit calendars shared from Office 365 or Outlook.com, and furthermore, the application will also give users the ability to share their own calendars with others or accept invitations directly within the app. However, it’s important to note that as of this writing, Microsoft is in the process of updating existing shared calendars, meaning that the changes may not be available to everyone immediately. The feature will roll out gradually, but users can attempt to trigger the new changes manually by re-accepting the sharing or delegate invitation from Outlook on their smartphones or tablets.
Another key change that will be part of this update is an option of managing delegated calendars on the go, such as accepting delegation requests and viewing or editing delegated calendars. Additionally, meeting invitations and responses will indicate more clearly whether they are meant for the delegate or the calendar’s manager. As far as the event manager is concerned, the update will give users the ability to create events with daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly recurrences, RSVP for single or recurring events, and see the availability of their coworkers. A handful of additional features are now also available for iOS but will soon be launching on Android, such as the ability to add a message to a meeting invite response, set an event as private, and have the option of marking calendar events as Busy, Free, Out of Office, or Tentative. Lastly, Microsoft is introducing support for Meetup within the Outlook calendar, however, this particular feature is currently available only for Android and will be coming to iOS at a later.
