OnePlus Tops Online Sales Charts In India's $400+ Market

Last month, a report surfaced claiming that OnePlus is the ‘highest recommended brand’ in India, and now a new report popped up saying that OnePlus is the best-selling vendor in India for Q2 this year, as far as online sales are concerned at the very least, and do keep in mind that this report applies for the premium segment only. This information comes from techinasia.com, though it was allegedly pulled from IDC, as IDC’s chart is included here. Having said that, according to this chart, OnePlus actually grew quite a bit in India, as the company managed to grab a 57 percent share of the mobile phone market in the premium smartphone segment.

If you take a look at the provided chart, you will be able to see that Apple is second-placed here, the Cupertino giant grabbed 38 percent of the premium market in India in the second quarter of this year, while Samsung is trailing far behind with only 4 percent of the market. That actually leaves only 1 percent of the market for other companies in the premium segment. So, some of you might wonder, what defines the ‘premium segment’ in this case, well, the cutoff is $400, so everything above that price is considered to be high-end. That being said, ti seems like OnePlus managed to fend off not only Apple and Samsung, but also OPPO, a company that has been investing quite a bit of resources for marketing in India. Do keep in mind that this report only covers online sales, so chances are that the offline sales paint a completely different picture, and OPPO is quite probably doing much, much better.

Apple has actually adapted its price points for the Indian smartphone market, while OnePlus is selling only two smartphones in this price range in India, the OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 5, well, actually, the OnePlus 3T is now a bit more affordable than $400 through Amazon India, but it was not when the second quarter ended. In fact, the OnePlus 5 launched in India at the end of June this year, so these results are based almost entirely on the sales of the OnePlus 3T in the country, which has been an incredibly successful phone for OnePlus it seems. It remains to be seen how will this chart change by the end of the year, with some new smartphones in the mix.
