Samsung Gear Sport Smartwatch Now Available for $299

Samsung’s latest wearable, the Gear Sport, is now finally available for purchase. The Gear Sport comes in either black or blue and is priced at $299. This wearable, Samsung is positioning between its fitness tracker the Gear Fit2 Pro, and its smartwatch, the Gear S3. It’s sort of a hybrid of both, being water-proof and able to track swimming like the Gear Fit2 Pro, but also being able to do virtually everything that the Gear S3 is able to do.

The Gear Sport has that rotating bezel that Samsung has now made famous on its recent smartwatches, making it easier to navigate through the OS. It also has two buttons on the right-hand side for going back and opening up the app drawer. The Gear Sport  does also have a heart rate monitor, so you can keep track of your heart rate during your workouts and seeing how far you are really pushing yourself during your workout. The heart rate monitor is not going to be the most accurate one out there, since it is not actually located on your heart, but your wrist. And this is the case for most fitness trackers with the heart rate monitor included. The Gear Sport does also work with a few of the more popular fitness tracking apps like Map My Run, Endomundo, Speedo On and a few others. So you can sync your fitness tracking data with other platforms and have everything available in one place.

Samsung, Amazon, and a few other retailers are offering up the Gear Sport today. Those that pre-ordered the device should have it in hand already, or it will arrive today. As mentioned, it’s available in blue or black, and Samsung has made the bands interchangeable, so if you don’t like the silicon band that comes with the Gear Sport, you are free to replace it with another one. Any 20mm watch band will work with the Gear Sport smartwatch. It is also compatible with any Android smartphone running Android 4.4 KitKat or later, as well as iPhones running iOS 9.0 or later. If you aren’t using a Samsung smartphone, you’ll need to go ahead and download the Samsung Gear and Samsung Health apps to get started.
