Samsung Opens Pre-Orders for Gear Sport & Gear IconX 2018

Samsung announced a slew of wearables at IFA back in late August, which included the Gear Fit2 Pro, Gear Sport and Gear IconX 2018. While the Gear Fit2 Pro went up for pre-order the next day, the other two had no availability details at all. However, now both are up for pre-order on Samsung’s website. The Gear Sport is going to cost $299, while the Gear IconX 2018 will set you back $199. Pre-orders will take place through October 26th, with the two wearables launching on October 27th. That also includes expanded availability, with the Gear Sport and Gear IconX 2018 launching at Amazon, Best Buy, Sprint, and US Cellular (the Gear Sport will also launch at Macy’s).

The Samsung Gear Sport is a lightweight version of Samsung’s Gear S3 smartwatch. It’s geared more towards the fitness fanatic out there, that still wants decent notifications on their wrist. There are other fitness watches out there that deliver notifications like the Fitbit Ionic and the Garmin Fenix, but the notifications are rather dull and almost useless. With the Gear Sport you’ll get all of your notifications on your wrist, as you’d expect. It does sport a 1.2-inch round Super AMOLED display, which has a resolution of 360×360. Inside is a dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of storage. There is also a 300mAh battery powering the Gear Sport, which Samsung says will keep you going for at least two full days. With the Gear Sport, Samsung has also partnered up with some fitness apps like MyFitnessPal, Endomundo, UA Record and a few others for integration. Allowing you to track your workouts using these apps, straight from your Gear Sport, and not needing to use your smartphone.

Samsung’s Gear IconX 2018 are its next version of wireless earbuds. And these are truly wireless earbuds. These will offer you around 7 hours of continuous playback on a charge, which is actually a bit higher than average for truly wireless earbuds. Now with the Gear IconX 2018, you are able to store music on the headphones as it does have 4GB of storage. However, if you choose to stream music via your smartphone using an app like Google Play Music or Spotify, the battery life will take a hit, down to 5 hours. Which is comparable to the Jaybird RUN truly wireless earbuds. The 4GB of storage is enough for a user to store around 1,000 songs, which should be plenty, even for a long run. Samsung did also include its personal assistant in the Gear IconX 2018, and that’s Bixby. With Bixby, you can give it voice commands by pressing the button on the Gear IconX 2018. Examples include telling Bixby to adjust the volume, change the playlist or even stop playing music. Of course, Bixby will only work if you have a compatible phone, which means the Galaxy S8, S8 Plus or Note 8.

You can pre-order the Gear Sport and Gear IconX 2018 now using the links below. The Gear Sport is going to be available in either blue or black. While the Gear IconX 2018 will be launching in pink, gray and black. Samsung isn’t running any promotions for those that pre-order this time around, like it did with the Gear Fit2 Pro however. But that could change.
