Some Galaxy S8 Owners Complain About Missing Text Messages

Some owners of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus recently took online to complain about missing text messages on their smartphones, claiming that at least a portion of SMS messages sent to them never show up on Samsung’s device(s) or are extremely tardy in doing so. Initial reports on the matter have originated solely from the United States and are yet to be confirmed by users from other parts of the world, suggesting that the issue at hand may only be affecting the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus models powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. While some users complaining about missing text messages on their Android flagships were quick to blame their wireless carriers, it seems unlikely that any one of them is solely responsible for the current state of affairs seeing how the issue is apparently present on Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T’s network, whereas some T-Mobile customers may also be affected.

According to one person who managed to deal with the problem, the bug is somehow related to Wi-Fi calling and turning off this functionality in the system Settings app also eliminates any issues with missing text messages. The method itself reportedly doesn’t have a 100 percent success rate and rebooting Samsung’s device or switching to another messaging app doesn’t yield any results either, some users claim. The frequency of the issue itself also seems to vary to a large degree, with some Galaxy S8 owners claiming that they occasionally missed a message or two in the past and others stating that approximately half of all messages sent to them never reach their destination. The problem only started manifesting itself recently, with earliest widespread reports of it dating back to last month and only one known complaint claiming that the devices were suffering from the same issue from day one.

Samsung has yet to comment on the matter in any capacity and the same goes for wireless carriers in the U.S., but if the problem truly appears to be a widespread one, some official clarification is likely to follow soon. If you happen to be one of the affected Galaxy S8 owners, try disabling Wi-Fi calling and Advanced Messaging in your Messages app and see if that proves to be a temporary fix as some users suggested.
