Verizon Wireless is expected to bring Google’s latest Pixel 2 smartphone series in its brick & mortar stores throughout the United States today – October 12th – ahead of their official market release, giving prospective buyers an opportunity to personally test the devices. Verizon is the sole carrier in the U.S. to distribute the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, and although Google is also offering the smartphones from its digital store, this is virtually the only opportunity to try out the new Android flagships without committing to a pre-purchase.
As of this writing, the Google Pixel 2 at Verizon has an expected delivery date set for October 19th, whereas the larger Pixel 2 XL should be shipped by November 1st. As far as pricing is concerned, the Pixel 2 is available off-contract for the retail price of $649, and alternatively, the smartphone can be acquired for $0 down and 24 monthly payments of $27.08 each. On the other hand, the Pixel 2 XL carries a retail price of $849.99 and is also available on a carrier agreement for $0 down alongside a two-year payment plan of $35.41 a month. Those prices are specific to the models carrying 64GB of internal memory, and the story is slightly different for the 128GB variants in terms of both pricing and availability. Specifically, it appears that as of this writing, the 128GB Black & White Google Pixel 2 XL has an expected delivery date set for an even later November 8th. With that in mind, the ability to test and experience the newly announced smartphones firsthand before they will be shipped to customers should be welcomed by at least some consumers who happen to be Android enthusiasts or just fans of the Alphabet-owned tech giant.
Spec-wise, the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL share the same internal characteristics including the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4GB of RAM, and the same impressive 12.2-megapixel main camera coupled with a powerful 8-megapixel front-facing sensor. The key differences between the two models are found in their exterior design, i.e. the fact that the Pixel 2 XL comes with a higher-resolution 18:9 display featuring thinner top and bottom bezels.
